Pineapple Smoothies

Pineapple is in. And I couldn't be happier. I grew up on an island in Malaysia. Not that we ate more pineapples than the rest of the country but it was definitely a staple. Tropical fruits have a special place in my heart. In light of the recent hype around pineapple, I decided to join the party. I threw my own smoothie party. What can possible go wrong with yummy fruit smoothies?

With my love for variety, I got some frozen pineapples, as well as some strawberries, mangoes, and mixed berries, all frozen of course. I started with the tried and true, pineapple and mango smoothie. I made it with some vanilla yogurt and vanilla soy milk. If you want to make some yourself and are not a fan of either vanilla yogurt or soy milk, you can substitute the yogurt with any flavored yogurt (or plain) that you like, and regular milk in place of the soy milk. The idea behind the recipe revolves around a 2:1 pineapple to any accompaniment fruit ratio, a couple tablespoons of yogurt and enough milk to make sure the ingredients blend well. I made three different recipes and if you are feeling adventurous, give them a try!

1/2 Cup frozen pineapple chunks

1/4 Cup frozen mango chunks

3 Tablespoons low fat yogurt

1/2 Cup vanilla soy milk

Pineapple with Strawberry Smoothie

Ingredients

1/2 Cup frozen pineapple chunks

1/4 Cup frozen strawberries

3 Tablespoons low fat yogurt

1/2 Cup vanilla soy milk

Pineapple with Mixed Berries Smoothie

Ingredients

1/2 Cup frozen pineapple chunks

1/4 Cup frozen mixed berries

3 Tablespoons low fat yogurt

1/2 Cup vanilla soy milk

These turned out amazing! I liked all three of them for different reasons. The protein from the yogurt and milk as well as the fiber from the fruit will fill you up, making this the perfect afternoon snack, or even a nutritious breakfast that will last you through lunch easily. You can also tweak the recipes to fit your preferences. Omit or add anything you would like. Go ahead, experiment and have fun!
