This is a vacation with a desert style and mountain views. You will run into a lot of southwestern themes from museums to restaurants, but the hotels are elegant and modern. Phoenix is home to five professional sports teams: Arizona Cardinals (NFL) and Phoenix Coyotes (NHL), who play at University of Phoenix Stadium, Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB) play in Chase field and Phoenix Suns (NBA) and Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) play at US Airways Center.

If you’re on a couples vacation or with your family there are several elegant resorts to choose from. The Arizona Biltmore Resort, Omni Scottsdale Resort Spa at Montelucia and The Phoenician are some great choices. They feature many choices for rooms including suites, balconies and other specialties.
Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort is a good choice if you are interested in mountain views. If you are more interested in water park fun, The Arizona Grand Resort is a perfect match. The resort has Oasis Water Park, a seven-acre park featuring slides, pools, tubing and a 25-person hot tub . A cheaper hotel option is the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Phoenix and a cheaper resort option is Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort.
What to Do
For the local southwestern experience, visit the desert botanical gardens and Heard Museum for Native American art and culture. For kids, there is the Children’s Museum of Phoenix and the Phoenix Zoo, which has native animals such as coyotes and javelin, exotic animals and is one of the top-rated zoos in the country. If you are interested in sports activities, there is white water rafting, salt river tubing and AZ Flyboard rentals.
For couples, there are hot air balloon rides to see the city, tours of the desert in a Jeep or Hummer or tours through the mountain ranges by horseback. For nightlife, there are clubs, wine bars and lounges for some fun.
Where to Eat
Phoenix is full of cafes, bakeries and Mexican restaurants. El Chorro Lodge is a place for food with a mountain view. They are well-known for their cinnamon rolls.
